I went to buy a newspaper from the trusty newsrack near my lakehouse I had bought papers from for several years and discovered it had been removed.
I initially thought it was a store related issue so I drove to the next location several miles away only to find it too was gone.
I asked the store owner about the newsracks whereabouts and learned all of the newstands for the “state’s newspaper” had been removed to reduce costs.
I would make the trip to buy the paper more out of habit than necessity.
Why buy a newspaper when you can get all of the same information on a laptop or handheld without the trip, time or cost?
I guess the state’s newspaper along with every other newspaper are now asking the very same question too.
Introducing the 21st Century Newsstand and Newsrack:

Business presentations should be no more than 20 slides or three type-written pages.
After what seems like years of waiting, a photo and video I add to my Google Local Business Center account have finally been added to my Google Maps listing.
From the outset, my listing has displayed the data I initially provided to Google including my Website, Hours, Payment Accepted, Description and Email.
However, the images I added shortly after the Local Business Center began accepting photos and videos didn’t appear in my business listing until recently.
My Local Business Listing now includes both the video and image I provided.
In addition to my Local Business Center listing displaying photos and videos, my account now provides monthly account impressions and views statistics.
Business owners who have active Google Local Business Center listings will be happy to find this new local traffic data available in their accounts.
Twitter has begun testing real time inline search within some Twitter accounts.
From the Twitter blog:
Currently, a small subset of Twitter users are trying this new search feature in the sidebar of their Twitter home page. When you do a search, you don’t go to another page, the relevant tweets instantly show up where you’d expect them to—right on your home page where tweets love to be.
I have the new Twitter search box in my account and find its inline search results much more convenient and practical.
As Twitter accummulates user search data, they will be able to parse the Twitter audience into segments which is a requisite for monetizing their ever increasing traffic.
The Yahoo Search Marketing team has begun posting to Twitter.
From the Yahoo Search Marketing blog:
We tweet throughout the week on our latest activities: about new products, from conference panels, and of course, with posts from the Yahoo! Search Marketing blog.
The official Yahoo corporate blogger is tweeting as well.
We’re not the only ones at Yahoo! serving up Twittery goodness. Nicki Dugan, the corporate blogger at Yodel Anecdotal, tweets on everything that the rest of Yahoo! is doing.

In the not too distant future, comScore will release its traffic stats for a variety of different web categories and properties for March 2009.
One web property’s traffic many observers will be following closely is Twitter.com.
According to comScore during the month of February 2009, Twitter.com had 9.8 million unique visitors while Facebook had 275.6 million unique visitors and Myspace had 123.5 million unique visitors worldwide.
Based on my research, I am going to predict Twitter.com will have twice its February 2009 traffic in March 2009 – 19.6 million unique visitors.
Thinking out loud…
Innovation by definition isn’t incremental so why write about incremental improvements?
I am also getting bored with the perpetual stream of incremental improvements that come from every imaginable corner of the world of technology.
So some extemporaneous thinking here:
Gootter.com would be the name of the merged services from Google.com and Twitter.com.
Twitter is an answer engine looking for the right questions.
Google is a question engine that already has the right answers.
Gootter.com will answer your questions before you ask them.
The National Yellow Pages submission scam has moved online and evolved into the search engine submission scam.
Recently I began receiving the following “Domain Notice” for several of my domains.
Unless the business offering the search engine submission service is called “Attention: Important Notice”, the company offering this particular service has neglected to place its name anywhere on their domain notice.
With email costs significantly less US postal rates, it was only a matter of time before the National Yellow Pages direct mailers found their way online selling a similar service – like a search engine submission service.
Buried within the Domain Notice fine print regarding their “100% Satisfaction is Guaranteed or Your Money Back” the search engine submission service suggests refund requests be made within 30 days.
A Google search for 718-799-5355 doesn’t reveal any business listing data other than through a reverse lookup service.
However in the future, a search for 718-799-5355 will produce this blog post.
Readers can then decide for themselves whether purchasing a search engine submission service from an unknown and unlisted business is a good decision or not.
