My First WordPress Blog Tweet to Twitter

WordPress.com has announced a new feature called Publicize which let WordPress publishers tweet their blog posts directly to their Twitter account.

The feature is enabled from WordPress Dashboard’s → My Blogs admin page.

Once enabled, WordPress users are directed through an authorization procedure to confirm that they want to connect their WordPress.com blog and their Twitter account.

After Twitter allows access to a WordPress blog, the blogger’s account will display a message showing a successful connection has been made.

I assume publishing a WordPress blog post then automatically Tweets the post and it’s WordPress shortened url (Wp.Me) to the previously selected Twitter account.

Indexed URLs Less Than Half of Total URLs

With having written a blog post every single day for over a year now, I have accumulated and published 556 unique articles for SearchMarketingCommunications.com via WordPress.

While all of my blog posts unique domains have been identified and crawled, less than half are appearing in Google’s index.

With no sitemap errors or warnings reported in my Google Webmaster Tools dashboard, I am somewhat perplexed why the percentage of my pages indexed is not 100%.

Granted, a 100% index rate may be rare but some of my other WordPress hosted sites are enjoying greater Google page indexing success rates like the example below.

Making Twitter Updates Searchable

I have posted over 16,000 words 140 characters at a time to Twitter since I began Tweeting in May of 2008.

Recently I became concerned about the Twitter cloud’s ability to archive my Tweets for a prolonged period of time.

I don’t have the same concern about WordPress’ ability to archive my blog posts so I thought I would mash the two together to create a searchable archive of my Twitter updates both here in my WordPress blog and ultimately in Google’s search engine results pages via the Googlebot crawl.

To create a searchable archive of your Twitter updates, Go to your Twitter Updates link @Twitter.com to scroll, scrape and copy all of your Twitter Updates into a Word document or Text editor.

Then create a new blog post in your WordPress blog and paste all of your Tweets into a post with or without each Tweets hashtag (#).

Once you have published your Tweet post in WordPress, visit your blog and search for any of your Tweets by date or keyword in your WordPress search box.

Your Twitter updates are now archived within WordPress.

Provided your blog is already in the Google index, your Twitter updates will then soon be locatable within Google search engine results pages too.

WordPress Domain Change and Google Indexing Issues

On January 28, 2009 I moved my several year old blog to a new domain while still hosting the site at WordPress.

In addition to the blog no longer being picked up by Google blog search or Technorati, the new domain hasn’t had any new posts crawled or indexed by Google since switching domains.

I verified the site with Google as suggested several weeks ago yet still no luck.

On the other hand, I haven’t verified the new domain with Yahoo or Microsoft Live.

February 2009 WordPress Blog Traffic Stats

This blog: Search Marketing Communications generated its seventh highest month in terms of traffic during Febraury 2009 with 6.059 views.

Previously, this WordPress blog’s highest trafficked month was September 2008 with 22,897 views.

Approximately 27% as many views occurred during February 2009 as compared with September 2008.

Why the drop in traffic?

Because I switched this blog from a WordPress.com domain to my own private domain on January 28th and it has yet to get crawled and re-indexed in Google under my new domain name.

The vast majority of traffic this blog received in February 2009 came via search engines to posts written several months ago. Not a single one of my posts from February received any search engine referrals.

WordPress says it could take as long as six months for this simple change to recognized and acted on by Google.

If you are considering switching your WordPress blog to your own domain, you might think twice if you are looking to get search referrals anytime soon after the switch.

By the end of February 2009, searchmarketingommunications.com had been viewed 119,422 times since its launch in September 2006.

In its first month of existence this blog had 1,593 total views.

February 2009 traffic was approximately 4 times greater than September 2006 traffic.

Few people subscribe to this blog, thus the vast majority (an estimated 99% or greater) found this blog through some type of search query, which is why this blog is titled:

TwitterVision.com: See Tweets on Google Maps

Today I noticed referrals to my WordPress blog from TwitterVision.com.

Its an interesting concept: mashing Twitter Tweets up with Google Maps.

I am not sure how often it grabs Tweets or how regularly specific areas within Google Maps  are refreshed but TwitterVision does provide a new view into the world of Twitter.

I tested Twittervision’s ability to place and map Tweets originating from the San Francisco area.

After several minutes Twittervision reported a Tweet from one of Twitter’s most prolific Tweeters – Robert Scoble @ Half Moon Bay, CA.

This blog: Search Marketing Communications generated its third highest month in terms of traffic during December 2008 with 10,154 views.

Previously, this WordPress blog’s highest trafficked month was September 2008 with 22,897 views.

Approximately 50% as many views occurred during December 2008 as compared with September 2008, however combined traffic totals from September, October, November and December 2008 have generated 53,894 views – or slightly over 50% of all blog traffic received since inception.

By the end of December 2008, cohn.wordpress.com had been viewed 105,994 times since its launch in September 2006.

In its first month of existence this blog had 1,593 total views.

December 2008 traffic was approximately 7 times greater than September 2006 traffic.

Few people subscribe to this blog, thus the vast majority (an estimated 99% or greater) found this blog through some type of search query, which is why this blog is titled:

Previously, this WordPress blog’s highest trafficked month was September 2008 with 22,897 views.

Roughly 40% as many views occurred during November 2008 as compared with September 2008, however combined traffic totals from September, October and November 2008 have generated 43,740 views – or slightly over 45% of all blog traffic received since inception.

By the end of November 2008, cohn.wordpress.com had been viewed 95,839 times since its launch in September 2006.

In its first month of existence this blog had 1,593 total views.

Previously, this WordPress blog’s highest trafficked month was September 2008 with 22,897 views.

Roughly half as many views occurred during October 2008 as compared with September 2008, however combined traffic totals from these two months alone have generated 34,561 views – slightly over 1/3 of all blog traffic received since inception.

By the end of October 2008, cohn.wordpress.com had been viewed 86,750 times since its launch in September 2006.

In its first month of existence this blog had 1,593 total views.
