YouTube Partnership Program

October 23, 2010

I was surprised to find the following message about my “How To Move A Storage Shed” in my YouTube account today:

What’s amazing about this video is I shot it on a fluke and it has received over 28,000 views to date.

To sign up for the YouTube Partnership program, a video producer must review YouTube’s instructions.

Twitter Landing Pages

August 21, 2009

Several weeks ago while posting here I wondered aloud about the whereabouts of a business model for seemingly non-stop Twitter Tweeters.

One particular Twitter account I follow has posted over 66,452 Tweets.

Seemingly half of his Tweets are quotes while the balance appear to be general interest news stories.

I had clicked through to his Twitter page several times but had never clicked on one of his shortened urls until tonight.

In doing so, I believe I found the source of his passion for posting so many Tweets: A Twitter Landing Page.

Not just a web page with filled with quotes or news but a web page filled with Google Adsense Ad units.

On the surface, it doesn’t look like much but with 66,000+ optimized Tweets in the wild it may explain why this particular Twitter account holder is so prolific.

Ironic? Microsoft Cashback Buying Ads in Google

March 6, 2009

I was reading Greg Sterling’s report in Search Engine Land about Microsoft’s Cashback search promotion being added to the MSN Toolbar.

After completing the article I scrolled to the bottom of the page where I noticed two Google Adsense ads.

Google’s distributed advertising on web publishers sites is called Google Adsense.

Adsense analyzes content on web pages where it places ads and since this article was about Microsoft and Cashback – Google searched and found within its ad inventory the most relevant advertiser ads.

Somewhat surprisingly, the first ad titled “Rebate” Search that Pays You Back. Search Now and Save! is an advertisement from none other than Microsoft itself for their Cashback program.

Clicking through takes readers to the Cashback Live Search page.

Microsoft’s advertising on Google’s publishing partner sites isn’t too unusual.

It does seem a bit ironic to me however that Microsoft is also advertising their Cashback search product on Google.

Do competing media networks advertise their television products on networks other than their own?

I guess the search business hasn’t yet considered what implications there may be – if any –  by allowing competitors to advertise their business on each others respective search networks.
