After having some initial difficulty getting a Google Places bulk upload approved, I finally received notice my file had been verified.
After I received the notice, I then logged in to see what data had been reported in my Google Places dashboard.
I immediately noticed some irregularities in my Google Places Dashboard.
The first thing I noticed was that several locations “Actions” exceeded total “Impressions”.
While it may be entirely possible for actions within a site to exceed clicks to a site, I haven’t yet seen a case where a website generated more actions on its site than the same site’s address received in total impressions, let alone actual clickthroughs.
The second thing I discovered once logged into my Google Places dashboard was clicking the “See your listing on Google Maps” link dead ended at a Maps page stating – “We currently don’t support this location.”
I guess Google Places and Google Maps don’t yet play well together.
Mike Blumenthal informs me the dead ended link will resolve itself within 48 hours, but it doesn’t sound like the total impressions vs. actions data bug will get resolved anytime soon.
While its great to get my Google Places bulk upload verified so quickly, the “See your listing on Google Maps” and the inaccurately reported dashboard data leads me to conclude there is still much work to be done in Google Places.
