I received the following comment from an acquaintance regarding succeeding in the communications field:

Someday over lunch maybe you can enlighten me on how to thrive doing this work.

The following was my short answer to his question.

1. You have to know your audience and how to reach or be reached by them.

2. You have to understand how your solution(s) correspond to their problems.

3. The audience has to trust you and what you say.

4. They have want/need, prefer and pay for what you offer over any of their other alternatives.
